RESTON, Va. — Beloved Yoga in Reston will host a performance by Festival Flamenco of Northern Virginia on Friday.
The free event, titled “Flamenco with Senior Tea,” will feature dancers performing in the famenco tabla tradition from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. at the studio, located at 11109 Sunset Hills Road in Reston.

Featured dances include the fandango, which showcases vigorous footwork (escovilla), and the shawl dance, which combines traditional Spanish dance with North African influences from the castanets.
Nancy Bloomfield, who organized the group, has been teaching flamenco to seniors since 2019. She will be hosting a mat/chair class from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. More information is available online.

In the first part, Jalal Kimia will showcase his multi-percussion skills in four chapters, each dedicated to one of the four elements: fire, water, earth and air. Throughout these chapters, the music vividly evokes the essence and atmosphere of each element, captivating the audience with its imagery and emotion. In the second part, the entire Rumi Daf Ensemble will perform a selection of Jalal Kimia’s percussion pieces as well as songs featuring poetry by Rumi. This segment has a spiritual resonance, enhanced by the inclusion of one or two songs accompanied by Sama dancers, adding a visual element to the profound musical experience.Do not miss this special concert where ancient traditions and modern artistry come together to create a truly unforgettable musical journey.

In 2019, Jalal Kimia, along with senior students and fellow musicians, founded the Washington, DC-area-based Rumi Daf Ensemble. As a dynamic musical collective, the Rumi Daf Ensemble’s primary mission is to showcase and preserve Iranian culture and arts in the United States and abroad.
Additionally, the ensemble is committed to introducing and familiarizing the revered ancient daf instrument to younger generations and non-Iranian communities.
