Prathamesh Date, a student of Sister Nivedita English Medium School, secured perfect 100% marks in the Maharashtra State 10th Class SSC examinations.
“I feel great. I feel like my hard work finally paid off today. I was expecting a 100% score,” said an elated Date, expressing his satisfaction and joy.
Date’s performance has been supported by his parents. His father works as a project manager at TCS and his mother works as a music teacher at an arts society in Chembur. Recalling their reaction, Date said, “They were both surprised. I hadn’t told them my expectations. My friends and the school always told me I would get 100% and that I deserved it.”
Date’s approach to studies is unique. He attributes his success to following the school curriculum and avoiding extraneous study. “I didn’t do any extraneous study and only studied what I was taught in school and in classes. I play tabla. I used to practice tabla for an hour and a half every day. I never made a study plan or fixed schedule. I always made sure to study and complete the homework given to me by school and classes,” he explained.
While students felt stress and pressure to score high, Date maintained a stress-free attitude towards studying. “Honestly, I have never felt any pressure. I have never felt any pressure or stress that I have to get 100 points. I just want to do my best in the exam. On the rare occasions when I felt stressed, I would play the tabla. It’s a kind of therapy. Playing the tabla was never a chore. Sometimes it would get in the way of my studies, but it was never an issue,” Date added.
Talking about her future prospects, Date shared her plans: “I am preparing for JEE. I want to go to the Indian Institute of Technology or National Institute of Technology. As for tabla, I want to continue practicing and play like a professional. I haven’t decided yet whether I want to take up tabla playing as a career,” Date said, showing her passion for both academics and music.
